Campanological Study (2007)
solo piano (4’)

This short meditation for piano takes as its starting point the climbing pattern of the bells of New College, Oxford where I was studying when I wrote it. Various strategies are used to get the piano to resonate like a bell, including the trick of ‘catching’ the resonance of staccato chords with the sustain pedal. At the end the climbing bell pattern returns, now warped out of shape as if only half remembered.
